Unlock Drive Modes on Your 2020–2024 Ford Police Interceptor Utility
Share
Additional drive modes—including Sport, Eco, Slippery, and Deep Snow/Sand—are built into many Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles but may not be enabled by default.
With a quick FORScan configuration change, you can activate the available drive modes without wiring, additional parts, or physical vehicle modifications.
If you are not familiar with FORScan programming, please review our FORScan Software Setup and Programming Guide before continuing.
What You’ll Need
- A Windows laptop with FORScan installed and activated
- A compatible OBD-II programming adapter
- Your vehicle safely parked with the ignition switched on
- A backup of your original ABS Module Configuration
Enable Additional Drive Modes
- Open FORScan and select the Configuration and Programming section.
- Locate and open ABS Module Configuration. Select the Play button to load the available settings.
-
Make the following change to the specified value. Leave all other characters unchanged.
Setting Current Value Change To Notes SDM – ABS Enabled Disabled Required to allow additional drive modes to function properly SDM – Mode 01 Disabled Enabled Normal SDM – Mode 02 Disabled Enabled Sport SDM – Mode 03 Disabled Enabled Eco SDM – Mode 04 Disabled Enabled Slippery SDM – Mode 05 Disabled Enabled Deep Snow/Sand - Select Write to save the updated ABS module configuration. Follow the on-screen prompts, then cycle the ignition power as instructed by FORScan. Continue following the safe programming and disconnect procedures in our FORScan Software Setup and Programming Guide.
Note: Enable only the drive modes you intend to use. Available parameters and supported modes may vary by model year, powertrain, ABS module software, and vehicle configuration. If a listed setting is not available in your ABS Module Configuration, do not attempt to substitute a value from another vehicle.
Use the Drive Modes
After the programming process and ignition cycle are complete, locate the drive mode button below the small dashboard display.
Press the button once to open the drive mode menu. Each additional press cycles through the available modes. Depending on the options enabled in the ABS module, the display may now show Normal, Sport, Eco, Slippery, and Deep Snow/Sand.
Tested Results
This procedure has been tested on multiple Ford Police Interceptor Utility configurations, including a 2020 3.3L Hybrid, a 2021 3.3L naturally aspirated model, and a 2023 3.0L EcoBoost.
In those tested vehicles, the additional drive modes enabled successfully through FORScan without added wiring, parts, or hardware upgrades.
